(Sorry for my English). Thank you very much for your comment, Amanda. I'll wait for the slides... What else can I do? ;-)
I suppose that everybody agrees to separate out the contextual information from the units of description to authority records, and EAC has to be the tool for spread, presentation, exchange... of this contextual information. We have to work on it.
Thank you again, and enjoy the German cakes (and beer)!

I'm sorry that you weren't able to come to the conference. The first day contained a lot of overviews: of the EAD standard and its history and of the many projects under way in France that are making use of the standard. Hubert Wajs described the particular problems that are being faced with multi-lingual legacy finding aids in Poland, then Petra Rauschenbach's talk described a major retroconversion project of index cards that has been undertaken by the Bundesarchiv.

This morning mostly seemed to be about persuading us all to use EAC. There are perfectly good reasons for separating out the contextual information about record creators from the descriptions of the records, but adoption of this standard is very limited in comparison to EAD. Perhaps the revision of the standard will help. I certainly think that we could look at using EAC alongside EAD in the Archives Hub in the future. The outputs of the <daofind +> project looked very impressive and are open source, so could provide building-blocks for other systems to use.

In the afternoon we were given overviews of METS, with information on how it can be used in digital preservation and digitisation projects. Again, the <daofind +> project was demonstrated in this context.

Of course the things I can't easily describe are the interesting conversations that happen in the coffee breaks (or the wonderful German cakes). I hope you'll be able to get to the next conference. I think that the slides will be made available online after the conference, if that's any consolation!
